Haneen Mahmood Martin
Haneen Mahmood Martin is a Malay-Saudi writer, artist and arts worker born in Kuala Lumpur, living in Adelaide before relocating to Darwin; drawn to the humidity, familiar produce, and joint history between South East Asia and the Top End.
Haneen lives for the connection and understanding that food can bring, the shared joy in embracing the beauty of her broader mixed Asian and Arabic cultures with loved ones, and the everyday rituals that make life meaningful. Her work aims to demystify her place in ‘Australian’ society and make the arts accessible for those who have been historically excluded, both as artists and audience members.
Haneen has most recently held positions as a Creative Producer with Next Wave, an Artistic Associate at Brown’s Mart, co-facilitator of Regional Scribes for Regional Arts Australia, and a member of the Curatorial Committee at Watch This Space. She also co-founded Teh Cha. a publication by People of Colour, for People of Colour.
In 2022, Haneen was a semi-finalist in the Northern Territory Young Achievers Awards in recognition of her career achievements. In 2021, Haneen was a Co-Manager for the National Young Writers’ Festival, Producer for Darwin Fringe, awarded a Regional Arts Australia Fellowship, and an NT Performing Arts Award.
Haneen recently completed her MFA (Cultural Leadership) at NIDA, adding to her completed studies in Architecture and Bahasa Indonesia.
Haneen has previously worked for Skinnyfish Music as General Manager, written research for Contemporary Asian Australian Performance, essays for SBS Voices and The Guardian, consulted for ABC Australia, and many more.
